Training Workshop on Developing Programme Learning Outcomes at the University of Health Sciences – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (UHS - VNUHCM)

On 17 April 2025, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) organised a workshop on “Developing Programme Learning Outcomes,” chaired by Vice-President Prof. PhD. Pharm. Le Minh Tri. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh provided training on outcome-based education principles, regulations, and the application of Constructive Alignment in programme design. The workshop combined theory and practice to help academic staff refine and improve their programme learning outcomes.

In order to further enhance the quality of its academic programmes following accreditation, on the morning of 17th April 2025, the University of Health Sciences VNUHCM (UHSVNUHCM) organised a training workshop on “Developing Programme Learning Outcomes” at the Administrative Building YA1. The workshop was chaired by Prof. PhD. Pharm. Le Minh Tri, Vice-President of the University.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Centre for Educational Testing and Quality Assessment, VNU-HCM, attended as the expert trainer. The event was attended by a large number of academic staff from the Office of Testing and Quality Assurance, along with leaders, lecturers, and quality assurance personnel from various faculties.

In his opening remarks, Prof. PhD. Pharm. Le Minh Tri emphasised the increasingly stringent requirements of quality assessment standards regarding programme learning outcomes (PLOs). He expressed his hope that participating staff would uphold a strong sense of responsibility, absorb the workshop’s content, and apply it effectively to the review and refinement of the learning outcomes of their respective programmes.

Prof. PhD. PharmD. Le Minh Tri – Vice-President of the University – delivered a directive address at the training workshop.

During the training session, Dr. Chinh presented an overview of learning outcomes and introduced regulations issued by state management agencies and accreditation organisations concerning the implementation and evaluation of programme learning outcomes.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Centre for Educational Testing and Quality Assessment, VNU-HCM, served as the training expert.

He further elaborated on the concept of Constructive Alignment – the coherent relationship among learning outcomes, teaching and learning methods, and assessment strategies. Dr. Chinh provided practical guidance on reviewing, evaluating, and proposing adjustments to the structure and content of several academic programmes at UHS-VNUHCM.

Beyond theoretical content, the workshop also shared practical models for measuring and evaluating learning outcomes, and proposed evaluation methods tailored to the specific characteristics of UHSVNUHCM programmes. Participants engaged in practical exercises, posed questions, and received direct feedback from Dr. Chinh.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants were updated on the process of developing programme learning outcomes, equipping each unit with practical approaches to construct learning outcomes appropriately aligned with their academic programmes.
