On 2nd November, 2025, the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM held a Graduation Ceremony to award degrees to 181 new Medical doctors and Pharmacists. The ceremony was not only a milestone marking the maturity of students from the 2019-2025 cohort but also an occasion to look back on the formation and development journey of a young university within the VNU-HCM system.
Continuously Learning to Serve the Community
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang – President of the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM, expressed his pride and emotion witnessing 181 new doctors and pharmacists officially stepping into a new journey. He extended congratulations to the new graduates and their families, while also expressing gratitude to the lecturers, hospitals, businesses, and parents – those who have accompanied the university throughout the training process.
“The baggage you carry is not only the knowledge imparted by teachers in classrooms, hospitals, and enterprises, but also beautiful memories, along with pains, disappointments, and anxieties. I hope that you will always remember your student life as a fulcrum and motivation for the journey ahead – the journey of a Physician,” said Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang.

The University President recalled the Hippocratic Oath as a guideline for medical ethics, while expressing his expectation that the new doctors and pharmacists would become a generation of “Physicians – Scientists – Global citizens,” contributing to building a modern, humane, and integrated Vietnamese healthcare system.
Prof. Dr. Med. Dang Van Phuoc – Honorary President of the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM, also shared heartfelt words about the medical profession, emphasising that this is a noble profession requiring learners to constantly cultivate knowledge and ethics. “Medicine is not a profession for ‘making a living’ but for ‘saving lives,’ demonstrated by the mission of caring for and saving people. In the context of the new era, when artificial intelligence and digital technology are developing strongly, you need to apply technology cautiously and correctly to support the medical examination and treatment process, but at the same time, do not forget to foster knowledge, skills, and especially maintain humanity – the core of a medical practitioner,” said Prof. Dr. Dang Van Phuoc.

First 46 Odonto-Stomatology Doctors
At the ceremony, the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM awarded degrees to 181 students, including: 97 Medical Doctors, 46 Odonto-Stomatology Doctors, and 38 Pharmacists. Notably, the 2019-2025 Odonto-Stomatology cohort is the unit’s first batch, marking a step towards completing the multi-disciplinary health training model.

The graduation rate for the entire 2019-2025 course reached nearly 90%. To date, the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM has trained 1,361 doctors and pharmacists for the Vietnamese health system – a modest number but one that carries great significance given that the University has only been established for 16 years.
The University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM honored 03 outstanding valedictorians, including students: Hoang Nguyen Nhat Thi (Odonto-Stomatology valedictorian, GPA 8.57), Nguyen Pham Hoang Nghi (Medicine valedictorian, GPA 8.58), and Truong Nguyen Hoang Long (Pharmacy valedictorian, GPA 8.35).
Representing 181 new doctors and pharmacists speaking at the graduation ceremony, Nhat Thi expressed gratitude to teachers, families, and friends – those who accompanied them through the university journey and the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. “At the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM, my friends and I understood more that Medicine does not require perfection, but needs a heart that knows how to listen and hands that know how to sympathise,” Nhat Thi said.

From the lecture halls of the University of Health Sciences – VNUHCM, the journey of today’s “white-blouse soldiers” has only just begun. With a foundation of knowledge forged in the pioneering academic environment of VNU-HCM, along with a spirit of benevolence and a desire for dedication, the new doctors and pharmacists carry the faith and responsibility of the young intellectual generation, continuing to write the journey of serving community health and affirming the position of Vietnamese intellect on the world medical map.
